Healthy Ways to Celebrate The Holidays

Halloween marks the beginning of the holiday season and all the decadent events and habits that come with it. There’s lots of treats, travel and time with relatives who tend to influence you to let loose and indulge or be sedentary. If you are working hard to transform into a healthy lifestyle the holidays can be quite challenging so here are some great ways to stay on track and put your focus on the fun of the holiday season.

Healthy Halloween Treats

Oh yes that Halloween candy is going on major sale the day after which is when many find it hardest to resist.  If the temptation to stock up is strong, you could replace that behavior with new healthy treats behavior instead.  Initially this may sound like it won’t satisfy you but the science tells us it’s not the actual candy you desire.  It’s the feeling that candy provides that most want and that feel good dopamine rush can be had with healthy treats too.

To test out this behavior modification strategy we had Tatyanas Sweet Side cook up some wickedly good protein cupcakes and health gummies and the experience was truly more satisfying than any bag of candy we could buy.

Even making a fun holiday smoothie or a healthy holiday platter can work to give you that feel-good fix AND replace old habits that no longer serve you.   Check out my past Halloween foods slideshow for ideas.

Fall Winter Fitness Challenges

One of the top ways to combat holiday idleness is to sign up for a fitness race or participate in a fitness challenge.  This can also help those around you to get on board with your healthy lifestyle changes.  When you make a commitment to a fitness event it sends a strong message to others that your exercise habits are a priority. Remember that not every friend or family member will be as enthusiastic about your fitness habits so it’s key to maintain a strong accountability plan with support to get through the holidays.  Get started with our new Fall Fit Body Lifestyle Challenge or try the Dia de los Deadlifts challenge.

Plan Ahead and Plan to Succeed

Holiday travel and parties can really derail your diet and workouts so if your holiday travel and events calendar is packed then be sure to spend some time planning your meals.  It’s really not much of a stretch to spend a bit of time planning around your health if you are already planning outfits, gifts, etc. and it’s the little things that keep you on track.  If you need help be sure to check out our Eating Healthy While Travelling Tips.  You can also check out hikes and walking tours at your travel destination or try my Sidney hotel workout I filmed a few years back while travelling through Australia.   My #1 travel workout trick is to keep it simple.
